Skylar Casey Named Head Cheer Coach

3/28/2023 | Cheer

OXFORD, Miss. – Skylar Casey, a five-time College National Champion, was named Ole Miss Head Cheer Coach in Fall 2022 and led the Rebels to D1A Spirit Program Gameday with Coed and Rebelettes in January 2023. The former Rebel cheerleader brings a wealth of experience as a championship-caliber student-athlete and coach across multiple levels of the sport.

In 2022, Casey served as the Assistant Cheer Coach at Ole Miss, helping the Rebels win the D1A All Girl Gameday National Title while serving as an assistant for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Cheer team. At NWCC, she was the Assistant Cheer Coach/Student Engagement Director, working with the Rangers during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. She helped take NWCC to UCA College Nationals for the first time in 20 years and won the Open Coed Gameday and Open Small Coed divisions. Casey and NWCC repeated their Open Small Coed title in 2022.

After graduating from Ole Miss, Casey spent two years as the Spirit Coordinator/Head Cheer & Dance Coach at Long Island University in New York. In 2020, she took LIU to UCA College Nationals for the first time in school history and received a top 10 finish. She also had a brief stint as head coach at Lewisburg Middle and High School, where both teams notched top-five finishes at NHSCC under her leadership.

At Ole Miss, Casey was a part of the 2017 Coed team that finished third at UCA College Nationals and received the highest ranking for Coed in program history. While cheering for the Rebels as a student, she volunteered as an assistant coach at DeSoto Central High School, helping DCHS win three National Championships.

"Being back at my Alma Mater is more rewarding than anything I could have ever imagine," said Casey. "I love Ole Miss! From my time being a student-athlete to now guiding and leading the current student-athletes, it is a dream come true for me. Having the ability to give back and pour into the program that shaped me into the person I am today is one of the biggest blessings in my life. I'd like to take the time to thank my amazing husband Brandon Casey, our son John Ragan, my family, my former and current athletes, and my friends who have gone above and beyond to support me and this program. Thank you to all the administration, alumni, and Rebel Nation for your continuous support of this program. And lastly, thank you Jesus for bringing me back home to the University of Mississippi! Hotty Toddy!"
