Men’s Golf Season Comes to an End at NCAA Norman Regional

Hugo Townsend Finishes Tied Fourth Individually
NORMAN, Okla. – With one last chance to make a push in the final round at the NCAA Norman Regional, Ole Miss' round of 2-under was not enough to qualify as a team to the 2023 NCAA Championships in Scottsdale. The Rebels finish 10th after going 5-under on the week.
"I'm gutted for our group that we couldn't get it done this week. They have had a tremendous spring season and worked extremely hard," said head coach Chris Malloy. "We just really struggled to ever get anything started and never had much momentum to build off of. Again, this team has accomplished a lot this year and they can hold their heads high."
Hugo Townsend remained hot en route to a final round of 3-under to go 9-under overall in the regional to tie for a fourth-place finish. The tie with Kansas' Will King forced a playoff to determine the individual from a non-advancing team to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual. The two battled back and forth all the way to Hole 8, before Townsend fell in a heartbreaker.
Wrapping up regional play at par, Sarut Vongchaisit concluded his Rebel career with a round of 74 to finish 2-over. The Bangkok, Thailand, native earned a top-40 finish tied for 39th place.
Cameron Tankersley finished up his final round with a 73 (+1) and added in two birdies to place tied for 53rd overall.
Highlighted by an eagle on Hole 10, Kye Meeks also chipped in five birdies in his final round to finish at an even 72. Meeks wrapped up his regional 3-over and tied in 53rd place.
With his best round of the week, Patton Samuels wrapped up his first year of collegiate golf with a round of 72 (E). Three birdies put the freshman at 222 (+6) on the week to finish 59th.
