Kamoku, Riley, Sikes and Vestal Honored With Academic Award

OXFORD, Miss. – College Sports Communicators released their 2023 Academic All-District Softball Team Tuesday, and four Ole Miss Rebels were honored with the award. Keila Kamoku, Catelyn Riley, Savana Sikes and Brooke Vestal were all named CSC Academic All-District honorees.

The 2023 Academic All‐District Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.

In order to qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) while also participating in at least 50 percent of the team's games. For pitchers, they must have at least 10 innings pitched. Qualifying student-athletes are also required to have completed at least one full academic year at their institution unless they are graduate transfers.

Kamoku is majoring in Journalism and has excelled in the classroom while also being one of the top contributors for the Rebels on both offense and defense. She finished the regular season hitting .301 with six doubles and seven home runs while starting 51 games at second base.

Despite missing the first month of the season, Riley has been electric in the circle for the Rebels. She has earned wins over No. 10 LSU, No. 19 Auburn, No. 15 Kentucky and No. 14 Florida, all while ranking second on the team with a 2.67 ERA through 89.0 pitched. The Dandridge, Tennessee, native is studying Sport and Recreation Administration.

Sikes graduated this spring with a Certificate in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration. Using her fifth season of eligibility to play at Ole Miss, she started 54 games at third base while posting the best offensive season of her career. The Douglasville, Georgia, native hit a team-best 12 doubles and registered the third-best batting average on the team with a .287 mark.

Vestal, who is working on her Masters in Sport Analytics, made 19 appearances for the Rebels, combining on three shutouts and compiling 46 strikeouts over 53.0 innings. She posted a 2.91 ERA en route to earning three victories in the circle. The senior was one of the toughest to hit in the SEC to hit, holding opposing batters to a .167 mark at the plate.

All Academic All‐District honorees now advance to the CSC Academic All‐America ballot. First‐, second- and third‐team Academic All‐America honorees will be announced on June 7.
