Marks Second Time in Career with Townsend Earning the Honor

NORMAN, Okla. – Ole Miss men's golfer Hugo Townsend was named on the 2023 PING All-Region Team in the Southeast Region the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Saturday.

This is the graduate transfer's second season in his career claiming the accolade as he earned a spot on the 2021 PING All-West Region team during his time at Boise State.

The honor comes from Townsend's successful season with Ole Miss where he competed in all 12 tournaments in his first season as a Rebel, leading the 2022-23 squad with a 70.60 stroke average for the season. He also recorded team-best totals in top 5 (3), top 10 (4) and top 20 (8) finishes on the year while pacing the team in rounds at par or better (24), rounds below par (18) and rounds in the 60s (13).

Townsend made an impact during his time in Oxford, highlighted by a season-best finish of 2nd place at the All-American Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas. Townsend's top-3 placement was earned off a 210 (-6) overall score and helped Ole Miss come home with hardware as it achieved the tournament title.

During the postseason, Townsend made his first SEC Championship appearance with a tied for 8th finish in stroke play, shooting a first round score of 68 and a third round score of 65. His third round score was a clutch season-low round to advance Ole Miss to the quarterfinals of match play for the first time since 2017. With the help of Townsend, Ole Miss earned its sixth straight bid to an NCAA Regional. Townsend continued to show out as he shot all three rounds of 69 at the Norman Regional to place tied for 4th but was unable to win the eight-hole tie-breaker to advance to Scottsdale, Arizona as an individual.

Also joining Townsend as a PING All-Region honoree is Tim Tillmanns, an incoming graduate transfer for the 2023-24 season. Tillmanns, a four-year letter-winner at Kansas State beginning in 2019, comes to Oxford having 32 career tournaments played underneath his belt, logging a 71.85 career stroke average.
