Men’s Golf Earns No. 4 Seed in Norman Regional of NCAA Tournament
5/3/2023 | Men's Golf
Marks Sixth Straight Regional Appearance for the Rebels
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss men's golf team's name was called for the 15th time in program history and for the sixth straight season during the NCAA Men's Selection Show as one of 81 teams to compete in the 2023 NCAA Regionals.
The Rebels are now locked in as the No. 4 seed at the Norman Regional. Ole Miss will head to Norman, Oklahoma for the tournament's regional round of play scheduled to take place May 15-17. The Regional hosted by Oklahoma will be taking place at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
"This is always the best time of the year," head coach Chris Malloy said. "You prepare for the NCAA Tournament from the start of the first day of practice in the fall. This team has had a tremendous spring season and I know that they are excited to get this thing rolling. We had great success on this golf course last year in the same tournament so I know that they are excited to have that familiarity."
This is the second straight season Ole Miss has been selected to compete at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in the Norman Regional. During last year's competition, Ole Miss punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2017 following a third place finish with an 849 (-15) overall score. Former Rebel, Jackson Suber, did something that no Rebel had done before by capturing an individual regional championship.
Texas Tech stands as the top seed of the 2023 Norman regional and field, while fellow SEC programs such as Alabama and LSU also found their way into the tournament.
Only the top five programs, as well as the top individual from non-advancing teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 26-31. The NCAA Championship will ultimately feature 30 teams and six individuals from non-qualifying teams.
