Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw With Samford

8/31/2023 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss (2-1-1) and Samford (2-1-2) played to their third-consecutive draw and second-consecutive scoreless draw Thursday night as the Rebels shut out the Bulldogs for the fourth time in their last five matchups.

Shu Ohba posted her second shutout of the season, making four saves on 12 shots faced. Aubrey Mister and Grace Freeman led the Rebel attack with two shots apiece.

The Rebels were held to just six shots in the match but were able to put four of them on goal.

Samford dominated the possession in the first half, outshooting the Rebels 8-1. They also took four of their five total corner kicks in the opening 90 minutes.

Ole Miss came out with a new energy in the second half and flipped the script on the Bulldogs. They outshot Samford 5-4 and created big opportunities throughout the whole half.

Their best chance came in the 51st minute when Freeman served a ball into the box, trying to find the feet of Kelly Brady. Samford's goalkeeper got to it first and knocked it into the air where Mister was able to get a head on it. The ball seemed destined for the back of the wide-open net until a Samford defender was able to knock it away.

The Rebels put up four more shots after that but could not find a way to break through.

Ole Miss will hit the road this weekend as they take on Georgia State in Atlanta on Sunday.
