THE COURSE
Spanning 6,269 yards and playing as a par 71, the Seth Raynor-designed Yeamans Hall Club stands as one of South Carolina's best courses, ranking No. 2 course in the state and No. 53 ranked course in the world according to Top100GolfCourses.com. Established in 1925, Yeamans Hall Club stands as a traditionalist's course with its old-style design. The course enjoys just about the firmest playing conditions of any course on the eastern seaboard of the United States, with the course featuring wide, tree-lined fairways and greens which are a trademark of Raynor. Additionally, the club received a much-needed restoration in the late 1980s courtesy of Tom Doak and his then-associate Jim Urbina.
LAST TIME AT COUGAR CLASSIC
Last year, the Ole Miss women's golf team came away with a tournament sweep in the team's season-opening fixture, as the Rebels battled their way to earning the 2022 Cougar Classic team and individual titles. Ending with a three-round team score of 839 (-13), just two strokes shy of the tournament record of 837, the Rebels were an unstoppable force at Yeamans Hall Club on the week with the team tallying 47 total birdies, along with a tournament-high 188 pars. Much of the Rebels' momentum on the week can be credited to Andrea Lignell. Lignell blazed the course in all three rounds of play en route to earning her first career medalist finish at Ole Miss, finishing 9-under par.
FRESH FACES
While the Rebels' 2023-24 roster features plenty of familiar faces, four new student athletes will make their way to Oxford to round out the Ole Miss women's golf squad for the year. Amongst the group of newcomers is two-time All-American transfer Caitlyn Macnab, who joins the Rebels after spending two seasons at TCU, where she broke the school-record for most eagles-made in a career. Along with Macnab, senior transfer Justine Fournand comes from South Carolina, where she started all 11 stroke play events and helped the team to a program record five wins in her one season with the Gamecocks.
RANKED REBS
Heading into opening week, the Rebels check in at No. 3 in the Golfweek Preseason Rankings, No. 13 in the Golf Channel Preseason Rankings and No. 16 in the Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll Preseason Rankings. A pair of Ole Miss women's golfers, Andrea Lignell and Caitlyn Macnab, were also named to the second team of the Golf Channel's Preseason All-America list.
FALL SLATE
The Cougar Classic marks the first of four fall tournaments that the Rebels will be traveling to in 2023. Following the team's trip to Charleston, the Rebels head to Franklin, Tennessee, for the annual Mason Rudolph Championship Sept. 22-24 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The team will then compete at the Illini Women's Invitational from Oct. 9-10 at the Medinah Country Club. The fall schedule then wraps up with the Rebels going to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate, set to run Oct. 15-17.
