Three Rebels Sit in the Top 20

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After 36 holes of competition, the Ole Miss men's golf team concluded day one of the SEC Fall Preview hosted by Jerry Pate at 20-under (548) overall and in a tie for 4th place.

The Rebels were rolling on the par 71 Birmingham Country Club, making 39 birdies through the first two rounds. Ole Miss took the first couple of holes of the day after a shotgun start to find its groove but ramped up the speed after the turn, completing a seven-under front nine in Round One.

Ole Miss kept its momentum going into Round Two with seven birdies made through the first five holes. The Rebels went on to make 21 birdies in Round Two with four Rebels shooting par or better.

"I was very impressed with the fight of these guys today," head coach Chris Malloy said. "We didn't get off to the best start due to some unforced errors with poor wedges and putting. However, they really turned it around and kept the momentum going into the second round. We have some ground to make up tomorrow but I know that our guys will be ready to go."

Overall, Ole Miss sits tied with Texas A&M for 4th and 10 strokes back from the leader, Auburn.

Michael La Sasso leads Ole Miss with a 136 (-6) overall score. The sophomore played near-perfect golf for the day, only making two bogeys through the two rounds. La Sasso shot rounds of 68 (-3) for both rounds, putting in eight birdies on day one, and is tied for 14th place.

Tom Fischer continued his hot first round streak, knocking in a 66 (-5) Round One. The sophomore's day was highlighted by three consecutive birdies on Holes 15-17. Fischer's momentum stalled in Round Two but was able to maintain an even score. The Birmingham-native looks to continue his success on his home turf tied for 17th place.

Cameron Tankersley is tied with his fellow Rebel teammate at 17th place after securing both rounds under par for the day. Tankersley began Round One with a 70 (-1) score but kicked up his momentum going into Round Two going bogey-free for 17 holes while making five birdies. The sophomore's second round score of 67 (-4) brought him to 137 (-5) overall.

Tim Tillmanns and Patton Samuels both are tied with each other at tied for 49th place after day one. Tillmanns came back from a seven-over first round and earned a 66 (-5) second round, adding six birdies in the mix. Samuels shot 72 (+1) for both rounds of his day.

Ole Miss will tee off tomorrow from Hole 1 beginning at 8:40 a.m. CT to conclude stroke play. Following stroke play, a match play portion will take place on Wednesday in an East vs. West format.
