Season-Best Day from Todd-Williams Carries Women’s Basketball past Georgia in Athens

1/21/2024 | Women's Basketball

ATHENS, Ga. – Backed by a season-best  performance from Kennedy Todd-Williams, Ole Miss women's basketball picked up its second straight win over Georgia from Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, 69-59.

The duo of Todd-Williams and Snudda Collins propelled Ole Miss (13-5, 3-2 SEC) over Georgia (10-9, 1-5 SEC) to grab its second road win in conference play and its third program win in Athens. Dropping a career-tying best of 22 points, Kennedy Todd-Williams drained a career-best 10 field goals as well as dishing out a season-high five assists.

Feeling it from beyond the arc, Snudda Collins nailed a season-high three triples en route to 17 points. Marquesha Davis tallied double-figures as well with 11 points for her 14th game of the season in double-figures. As a team, Ole Miss shot at a 51.7% clip for its best to date in SEC play.

Straight from the jump, Todd-Williams put the Rebels in motion with a three on the opening possession. Todd-Williams was the driving force on the offensive end for Ole Miss, with seven points alone in the first quarter. Georgia began to hit its stride with three straight field goals, while the Rebels worked to respond. Through a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes, UGA snagged a narrow lead over Ole Miss of 18-16.

Todd-Williams remained a spark for the Rebels, as they jumped out to a 25-20 lead early on in the second frame. Due to a key 12-0 run Ole Miss began to assert its lead, while disrupting Georgia by capitalizing off of UGA turnovers. At the break, Ole Miss maintained its advantage at 34-27 over Georgia.

As the Rebels hit a scoring slump, Georgia clawed its way back to erase Ole Miss' lead and tie the game up at 38 all midway through the third. A quick 6-0 run led by Collins and Todd-Williams, put Ole Miss back in the driver's seat to go up 52-46 with 10 minutes remaining.

Despite a short drought offensively, the Rebels defensive prowess allowed them to maintain its edge over the Bulldogs and never looked back. The duo of Collins and Todd-Williams continued to flow, as Ole Miss staved off Georgia in a 69-59 victory.

The Rebels return to Oxford for a week with meetings against Florida and Tennessee next Thursday (Jan. 25) and Sunday (Jan. 28). Tipoff against the Gators from the SJB Pavilion is set for 6:00 p.m. CT, airing on SEC Network.
