Fresh off the Field: Tough Road Loss

The Rebels scored first and held the lead until 0:27 of the fourth quarter when Garrett Nussmeier threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Anderson on 4th-and-5 to tie the game at 23 and force overtime. After an Ole Miss field goal to start the extra session, it took Nussmeier just one more pass to end it as he found Lacy from 25 yards out for the win.
That's a hard one, obviously," Kiffin said. "Feel for the players in the locker room, they played really hard. Give them credit too. We led the whole game until the last 30 seconds of the game. We were doing some things right. They made some really good plays. Really disappointed. We should win that game. Credit to them for making plays in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Missed Opportunities
Ole Miss was left looking back at numerous moments throughout the game that could've led to or outright sealed its first win in Tiger Stadium since 2008. The Rebels had a dropped certain touchdown, a turnover on downs inside the LSU 5-yard line and a missed short field goal that kept points off the board, all in the first half alone. Ole Miss led just 17-13 at halftime but felt like it could've led 34-10.
Penalties once again crippled the Rebels on both sides of the ball, plaguing drives on offense and extending them on defense. Ole Miss was flagged 12 times for 110 yards compared to just six for 45 yards for LSU.
Those things catch up with you," Kiffin said. "You miss a field goal. You have 4th-and-1 where you don't get cut off so you get stopped so you get no points in the red zone. We hand them three points with the fumble at the end of the half. Still after all that to be ahead with the ball in the fourth quarter—tough one. Sometimes things just suck.
Bentley Breaks Out
Individually, Ole Miss saw a strong performance from running back Ulysses Bentley IV. With Matt Jones out of commission, Bentley earned his largest workload of the season and made the most of it.
He led all rushers in the game with 107 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, including a 50-yard touchdown run in the first half.
Lee Steps Up
Just looking at the stat line, it would appear Ole Miss had the services of Tre Harris the entire game at LSU. The star receiver had seven catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, but all that came in the first three quarters as Harris, who has been playing through injury, was forced out of the game down the stretch.
Sophomore Cayden Lee had a career day in his stead, leading all receivers on the day with nine catches and 132 yards, both career-highs.
