Straight Set Success for Men's Tennis at ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team made some noise during the qualifying round of the ITA Southern Regional in Baton Rouge on Wednesday.
Making their second collegiate outing, the freshman duo of Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin found straight set success to secure four wins a piece on the day.
Martin started the day by earning an impressive straight set, 7-5, 6-2, win over Zach Murphy (JSU), to secure Ole Miss their first victory of the tournament. The freshman moved on to square off against Charlie Burdell, defeating the Tulane athlete, 6-2, 7-5, to go undefeated on day one.
Chambonniere captured a first round straight set, 6-2, 6-1, victory over Jacksonville States' David Krasner to start his time in Baton Rouge. The Paris, France, native moved on to defeat Alabama A&M's Tasso Moreira, 6-2, 6-2, to close out day one for the Rebels at the ITA Southern Regional.
Chambonniere and Martin will continue their run tomorrow in the main draw of the ITA Southern Regional.
Gordon Whitwell fought hard, but fell to Louisiana's Leonard Tramolay, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round of qualifying play. The junior went on to play Matthew Armbruster of New Orleans in the consolation round, but ultimately fell 7-6, 6-4 which ended his time on the singles court. Whitwell will stay in Baton Rouge and compete in doubles with partner Isac Strömberg beginning tomorrow.
Loan Lester, Noah Schlagenhauf, and Strömberg will join their teammates in Tigerland tomorrow and start their respective campaigns in both singles and doubles.
