Mens Tennis Goes Undefeated in Opening Round of Doubles at ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team competed in day two at the ITA Southern Regional on Thursday and went untouched in doubles, while adding four singles wins to the books.
Noah Schlagenhauf and Matthieu Chambonniere kicked off the day for the Rebels in doubles as the duo was paired against Samford's JB Pickard and Santiago Arredondo. The Ole Miss pair fought hard and ultimately defeated Pickard and Arredondo, 8-3, to secure the first win on the day for the Rebels.
Benjamin Martin and Loan Lestir kept the momentum going by capturing a dominant 8-2 win over North Alabama's duo of Samuel Balfour Dominguez and Whit Davis. The upperclassmen pair
of Isac Strömberg and Gordon Whitwell capped off the morning with a competitive 8-7 win against Troy's Henrique Costanzi De Brito and Nicolas Simkin.
Stromberg, Lestir, and Schlagenhauf opened their singles run in Baton Rouge with straight set victories in their respective matches. Stromberg defeated Alberto Altur (UNA), 6-4, 6-2, to secure his first singles win in Tigerland. Lestir squared off against Thomas Kennedy, defeating the Auburn athlete, 7-6 (5), 6-2. The junior sensation of Schlagenhauf came ready to compete today and secured a gritty, 6-0, 7-6 (3), win over Samford's Sandeep Mohandoss.
Chambonniere was up against LSU's No. 105 ranked Ishaan Ravichander. The freshman showed his competitive nature by forcing a third set and inevitably came out victorious, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (3), over Ravichander. This win marks Chambonniere's first ranked win of his collegiate career.
Martin fought hard against Alabama's Damien Nezar, but ultimately dropped the match, 6-1, 6-2, to end his time on the singles courts in Baton Rouge. The Nort-sur-Erdre, France native will continue to compete in doubles with his fellow french partner, Lestir.
The Rebels will return to play in Tigerland on Friday, looking to advance to the round of sixteen in singles and doubles.
