Soccer Downed by No. 5 Arkansas in Season Finale
10/27/2024 | Soccer
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss dropped its final game of the season against No. 5 Arkansas 0-5, in Oxford on Sunday afternoon. The Razorbacks were lifted by goals from Ava Tankersley, Kate Doyle, and Sophia Aragon.
Head coach Molly Rouse's thoughts on the 2024 team:
"During a transition phase, which is what we are still in, this group gave it everything they had. At the end of the day, we were able to grow in ways and we weren't able to grow enough in others that probably would flip some of the results at this level. There's much work to be done, but this group helped lay the foundation for a lot of really positive things. The future is bright for this program in terms of how high the ceiling can be here and how much more we can grow."
The Rebels and Razorbacks were deadlocked at zero until the 41st minute when Doyle found the back of the net for the first goal of the match off an assist from Zoe Susi. Aragon made it 2-0 Arkansas just three minutes later in the 44th minute, giving the Razorbacks breathing room just before the half.
Ava Tankersley found two second half goals for Arkansas in the 53rd minute, and again in the 57th minute. Doyle scored the final Razorback goal in the 61st minute putting Arkansas up five.
The Rebels wrap the 2024 season with five victories. Freshman Kayla Keefer led Ole Miss with five goals, tallying the most scored by a freshman since Haleigh Stackpole in 2018.
Eleven different players found the back of the net for Ole Miss this season with six of those recording their first collegiate goal.
Senior keeper Shu Ohba finishes her season with 79 saves. She tallied nine games in 2024 with six or more stops and made a season-high nine saves in the match against LSU on September 22nd.
Ole Miss saw flashes from the freshman class in Tate Blincoe and Katie Ramsden. Blincoe started all 19 games for the Rebels on the back line. Ramsden recorded five points on the season and led the Rebels in assists in her rookie campaign.
