Madison Scott Recognized on Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy College Player of the Year Watch List

10/28/2024 | Women's Basketball

ATLANTA – Ole Miss women's basketball fifth-year Madison Scott continues to add to her growing list of preseason accolades, as she was named to the 2024-25 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Watch List presented by AXIA Time, the Atlanta Tipoff Club release on Monday.

The watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's board of selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2024-25 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy will be awarded later this season at the 2025 NCAA Women's Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

Scott enters her final year as a Rebel, where she's etched her name next to some of the program's all-time greats. She averaged 12.8 points on 49.5% shooting last season. Scott has spent her entire career leading the Rebels in yearly shooting percentage.

Scott has become a dynamic two-way player in her career. At 6-foot-2, Scott is capable of playing both the guard and forward position. Playing the point last season, Scott led the team in assists for the first time in her career. She dished out a personal season-high 109 assists to pace the Rebels.

Defensively, Scott blocked 20 shots last season and stole the ball 27 times. She has over 100 of each of those statistical categories for her career.

Scott has recorded 27 double-doubles in her career, the seventh-most by a Rebel. She had seven last season, her strongest coming against Florida where she scored a career-high 27 points and hauled in 12 rebounds. She shot 71% from the floor that day, and five of her rebounds were on the offensive end.

Entering this season, Scott has made an even 500 shots on 995 attempts in her career. At 122, she sits only seven games outside of the top 10 in most games played as a Rebel. If she appears in at least 23 games this season, she will surpass Peggie Gillom-Granderson for the most games played in an Ole Miss jersey. If she plays all 28, she'll have an even 150 games under her belt.

Scott and the Rebels are set to open the season on Monday with an exhibition game against Christian Brothers at the SJB Pavillion. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and is free for fans to attend.
