Women’s Tennis to Compete in NCAA Individual Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Three Rebels are slated to compete in this falls NCAA Individual Championship in Waco, Texas, the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee announced Monday.
Ludmila Kareisová, Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Lucie Petruzelova will represent Ole Miss to cap the fall season. The Rebels were among 64 players to enter the singles draw, while Kareisová and Leclercq-Ficher will be put to the test as one of the 32 doubles pairs.
The tournament will be held Nov. 19-24 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Baylor University will serve as the host.
This is the first time the NCAA Individual Championships are being played in the fall, as opposed to the spring alongside the team championships. Singles and doubles participants qualified for the NCAA Division I singles and doubles championships via competition in approved qualifying pathway events - ITA All-American Championships, ITA Regional Championships, ITA Conference Masters Championships and ITA Sectional Championships.
Three Rebels selected to participate in the national tournament is the most since Ole Miss sent four in 2000. Ole Miss is also tied with 11 other programs for the most sent this season. It's Kareisová's second career appearance in the individual NCAA Championship and the first for Leclercq-Ficher and Petruzelova.
The Rebels punched their tickets to the tournament after a sensational run at the ITA Sectionals. All three made it to a semifinal round, with Kareisová landing in both singles and doubles.
Petruzelova leads Ole Miss in singles wins in the fall with eight and is one victory away from 75 in her overall career. Kareisová and Leclercq-Ficher have seven wins in doubles on the year and are just behind Petruzelova with seven wins apiece in singles.
Draws for the singles and doubles brackets will be announced at 5 p.m. CT, on Nov. 16.
