Cammy Niesen Named SEC Player of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. – Following a record-setting weekend, Ole Miss volleyball's Cammy Niesen has been named the SEC's Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, as the conference announced on Monday.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native becomes the first Rebel to earn SEC Player of the Week honor since Kylee McLaughlin on October 25, 2021. Niesen earns her second SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and the third of her career. Additionally, Niesen is the first player in program history to earn both awards at the same time since their inception.
It was a remarkable week for Niesen, who opened the first of two matches in record-setting fashion, recording 39 digs in a win over Arkansas. The total broke the previous single-match record of 37 for the Rebels, which was done on three occasions but last done in 2012.
Her standout week continued on Sunday, as she recorded 20 digs and a season-high eight assists to help the Rebels defeat Mississippi State. Over two key SEC wins, Niesen averaged a remarkable 6.56 digs per set, while moving up to fourth all-time in program history in total digs despite only being a junior.
Niesen and the Rebels are back in action on Friday, November 22, hosting Missouri for the final home match of the season at the Gillom Athletic Performance Center. The match will get started at 6:30 p.m. CT.
