Sira Thienou Recognized as SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a career performance against Boston College, No. 18 Ole Miss women's basketball's Sira Thienou has been named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The accolade is Thienou's first SEC honor in her career and first this season for an Ole Miss player. The guard is the first Rebel to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors since Madison Scott won it six times during the 2020-21 season and it marks the 21st instance in program history that a Rebel has secured the first-year recognition.
Thienou had her most complete game thus far in the Rebels' opening game of the Continental Tire Baha Mar Championship, tying a career-high 16 points and two three-pointers while additionally earning new career bests with eight rebounds and three steals. The Bamako, Mali, native helped lead Ole Miss to the fourth-largest win this season between Power Four opponents, defeating Boston College, 92-55.
Including her success against the Eagles, Thienou has scored in double figures in three straight games, notching 16 and 13 points against Jackson State and Delaware State, respectively. She is the first true freshman at Ole Miss to complete this feat since Scott earned it twice during her freshman year.
Thienou and the Rebels will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on the No. 2 UConn Huskies in the championship game of the Continental Tire Baha Mar Championship. Tip in Nassau, Bahamas is set for 6:30 CT and will stream on FloCollege.
