Jordan Watkins Named Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week

11/5/2024 | Football

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Ole Miss football senior wide receiver Jordan Watkins has been named the Walter Camp FBS National Offensive Player of the Week for games ending Nov. 2, as announced by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Tuesday.

This marks the sixth time an Ole Miss player has won the Walter Camp weekly award since 2004, the second in a row after Suntarine Perkins' defensive win following his four-sack performance against Oklahoma on Oct. 26.

This is the third weekly award for Watkins following his record-breaking performance at Arkansas on Nov. 2, joining an SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week split with quarterback Jaxson Dart, as well as winning the East-West Shrine Bowl Breakout Offensive Player of the Week.

Watkins was Dart's favorite target through the air at Arkansas, breaking Ole Miss single-game records in receiving yards (254) and touchdowns (5) – becoming one of only two in SEC history to have a 250-yard, five-touchdown game against an SEC defense alongside Alabama Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. Three of Watkins' five scores came on passes of at least 60 yards, giving him an FBS-leading four 60-yard receptions this season – all for touchdowns.

The 12th-ranked Rebels return to Vaught-Hemingway for a key contest this week when the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs come to town this Saturday. Kickoff on Nov. 9 is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
