Rifle Returns to Top 10 in CRCA Rankings

11/5/2024 | Rifle

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle has been ranked the No. 8 team in the country in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association's latest poll, as the association announced Tuesday.

The Rebels are 3-3, with each of the wins coming against ranked opponents. The Rebels best performance of the season came against No. 9 Murray State in October, when the Rebels fired a season-high 4723. In that match, All-American Lea Horvath shot her fourth career 600 in air rifle as the team shot the third-best smallbore team score in program history with 2358.

Freshmen Gracie Dinh and Jordan de Jesus have established themselves next to Horvath as capable competitors in the young season, averaging the second- and third-highest aggregate scores for the Rebels, respectively. Dinh has had the match-high aggregate score for the Rebels in consecutive appearances. Dinh and de Jesus also have also earned season highs in air rifle with 597 and 596, respectively.

Horvath leads the team in air rifle and aggregate scoring for the year. She's ninth in the nation in air rifle, averaging 597 through five appearances.

Veterans M'Leah Lambdin, Emma Pereira and Regan Diamond have contributed valuable depth to the Rebels' lineup. Lambdin has earned a counter spot in all but two events this season and has reached the podium for smallbore, air rifle and individual aggregate scoring at least once each this season.

Diamond is just behind the trio of Horvath, Dinh and de Jesus in air rifle, averaging the fourth-most on the team at 590. She's had a season-high 594 twice so far this season, including in the last outing against Kentucky.

Ole Miss is coming off a loss to fourth-ranked Kentucky, despite firing high scores and placing well in the standings. Dinh fired a career-high 1183 aggregate score after also setting a new career mark in smallbore with 591.

Alaska Fairbanks leads the PRC and the nation, holding steady at No. 1. No. 4 Kentucky, No. 5 TCU, No. 7 Air Force and No. 9 Ohio State represent the PRC in the top 10 alongside Ole Miss. Nebraska and UTEP are the other ranked teams in the PRC, placing 13th and 15th, respectively.

The Rebels are back in action on Nov. 17 as they close out the fall season with a matchup against No. 9 Ohio State. It's Ole Miss' second PRC matchup of the season.
