Ole Miss Chapter to Honor Will Galtney and James Storey with National Football Foundation Awards

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will honor Will Galtney, Jr. of Houston, Texas with its Contribution to Amateur Football Award and James Storey of Ripley, Mississippi with the Distinguished American Award here Saturday, November 9 when the Rebels host the Georgia Bulldogs.  Kickoff for the ABC telecast is set for 2:30 p.m. CT at Vaught‑Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
 
The Contribution to Amateur Football Award is given by the Ole Miss Chapter in honor of those who have made numerous contributions to the college athletics world through service to their fellow man, while the Distinguished American Award is presented to individuals who have set the standards for excellence in a life of service to the community.
 
"We are pleased to honor Will Galtney and James Storey for their contributions to Ole Miss Athletics," said Richard Noble of Indianola, Mississippi, president of the Ole Miss Chapter. "They are most deserving of this recognition, and having an on-campus salute provides an excellent opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for all they have done for Ole Miss."
 
Athletics Director Keith Carter and National Football Foundation Chief Operating Officer Matthew Sign will join Noble for the on-field presentation honoring Galtney and Storey.
 
An Ole Miss supporter of both academics and athletics, Will Galtney received his B.A. and M.P.A. degrees from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of the varsity tennis team.  In February of 2019, the $11 million William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center was dedicated in his honor.  He is a member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Hall of Fame.
 
Galtney, who is the Chairman of the Galtney Group and Galtney Partners, has been an owner/investor in numerous insurance and health care companies. He started the Galtney Group (GGI) in 1983 specializing in brokering and underwriting medical malpractice insurance for healthcare providers throughout the United States. One of GGI's subsidiaries, Healthcare Insurance Services (HIS), grew to become the 21st largest insurance brokerage company in the United States. HIS was the broker for over 60,000 physicians and over 500 hospitals. HIS was sold to Arthur J. Gallagher in 2001. Between 2001 and 2005, Galtney ran Arthur J. Gallagher's Healthcare practice nationwide. GGI also owned 50% of HMO Texas which was sold in November, 1996 to NYSE Sierra Health Services which subsequently sold to UnitedHealthcare.
 
GGI's insurance company, Western Indemnity Insurance Company, grew to become one of the top 20 underwriters of medical malpractice in the United Sates. This company was sold to Frontier Insurance Group in 1997. Since 2005, Galtney has been an investor in multiple insurance platforms and other Galtney Partners portfolio companies across various business segments.
 
Galtney is a founding and previous lead director of NYSE S&P 500 company, Everest Group. Everest is the fourth largest property and casualty reinsurer in the world. He has or is currently serving as a director/trustee of the Greater Houston Community Foundation, Greater Houston Partnership, Memorial Hermann Hospital System, Houston Baseball Partners, LLC, University of Mississippi Alumni Association, University of Mississippi Foundation, past Chairman of the Houston Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization and past chairman of Episcopal High School.
 
Galtney is married to Elizabeth and they have seven children and two grandchildren.
 
James Storey received his BSHPE and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Mississippi where he earned four letters (1974-77) while playing fullback for Coach Ken Cooper's Rebels.  A three-year starter, Storey's football career gained legendary status in 1977 when he caught two touchdown passes, including the winning TD from Tim Ellis, as Ole Miss defeated eventual National Champion Notre Dame, 20-13, in Jackson.
 
In receiving this year's NFF Ole Miss Chapter Distinguished American Award, Storey is being honored for his lifetime of helping others as a teacher and coach, and for his many decades of community service.  His most recent honor came last August when the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame selected Storey to receive its prestigious 2024 Bill Hetrick Community Service Award.
 
A member of the Ole Miss M-Club, Storey served as a Mississippi educator for over 38 years, working in both Itawamba and Tippah County, serving as a special education teacher, transportation administrator, and coached football, track & field and basketball.  He was named principal of Ripley Middle School in 1999 and retired in 2017.  He has been honored as the South Tippah School District Administrator of the Year, and received the MLK Arnie L. Prather Lifetime Achievement Award, plus was the Black History Honoree of the Saint James Church of God & Christ.
 
Over the years, Storey has been affiliated with various community, civic and professional organizations, including the Lions Club, Mississippi High School Activities Association, the Tippah County Good Samaritan Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi, 4-H, Boy Scouts and Little League sports.  He serves as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Ripley Second Baptist Church, while also volunteering at the Tippah County Good Samaritan Center.
 
Storey and his wife, Brenda, have three children and seven grandchildren.
