OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball program ended the regular season well-represented in the annual Southeastern Conference awards, as Cammy Niesen and Nia Washington took home honors on Sunday afternoon.
Cammy Niesen was selected as the SEC's Scholar Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Rebel to earn the award since its inception in 2003. Nia Washington capped off a career-year by earning All-SEC First Team honors, becoming the first to earn All-SEC honors since Sasha Ratliff in 2022.
Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Niesen has been the perfect combination of standout athlete and standout student. One of the top liberos in the conference, NIesen has tallied 511 digs, good for 4.56 digs per set. Her total led the SEC and ranks fourth all-time in the rally scoring era at Ole Miss, where she became the sixth Rebel ever to record a 500-dig season. Niesen earned two SEC Defensive Player of the Week awards on September 23 and November 18 of this season as well as the SEC Player of the Week on November 18.
In the classroom, Niesen adds another academic honor, after being named to the SEC's Academic Honor Roll in the 2023-24 academic year. Niesen was also selected to the SEC First Year Honor Roll as a freshman and continues to pursue her degree in Chemical Engineering with a 3.81 GPA.
Washington adds All-SEC honors to what has been one of the biggest breakout seasons in the nation. A native of New Orleans, La., Washington has tallied a team-high 419 kills for 3.88 per set and capped off the season with 30 kills at No. 14 Texas. Washington matched the single match rally scoring record for kills with 32 at Mississippi State and has tallied seven matches of over 20 kills, all of which came in SEC play. Additionally, Washington tallied 214 digs, 40 total blocks and 24 service aces.
