Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

2/1/2024 | Cross Country

NEW ORLEANS – Both the Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams have earned team academic honors and four total individual athletes have also been honored in the annual USTFCCCA All-Academic awards release unveiled on Thursday.

To earn the team honor, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. For the individual distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or top 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships, or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.

The Ole Miss women earned the team honor for the 14th season in a row after posting a 3.66 GPA. The Rebels finished 21st at the NCAA Championships, tied for the third-best national finish in program history.

Earning individual honors were senior All-Region runners Skylar Boogerd (Master's in Sport and Recreation Administration), Ryann Helmers (Master's in Curriculum and Instruction) and Loral Winn (Master's in Journalism), with Helmers capping the season by posting the best individual national finish ever by a Rebel woman in 23rd place. The Ole Miss women have now had at least three individual honorees for eight straight seasons since 2016.

The Rebel men's squad, meanwhile, earned the distinction for the eighth time in its history after notching a 3.35 GPA, their fourth team honor in a row since 2020. Senior and NCAA individual qualifier Cruz Gomez (Graduate Certificate in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration) earned individual honors, making this the sixth consecutive season the Rebel men have had at least one individual winner.
