Softball Routs Hawaii, 15-0
2/11/2024 | Softball
HONOLULU, Hawaii – A complete game shutout by Catelyn Riley and Ma'Nia Womack's first career home run highlighted Ole Miss softball's 15-0 rout of Hawaii Saturday night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Scoring in every inning, the Rebels (3-1, 0-0 SEC) recorded their most runs since plating 17 against Tennessee State in 2021. Ole Miss only needed nine hits, three of which came from Annie Orman. In total, nine Rebels crossed home, led by Paige Smith, who scored three times.
In the circle, Riley held Hawaii (1-3, 0-0 Big West) to just three hits in a complete game effort. The junior struck out six of the 20 batters she faced, only allowing four to reach base.
Ole Miss came out on fire, scoring three runs on four hits in the opening frame. Delaney Rummell got the Rebs started with a single back up the middle, and Smith followed with a double off the wall. With a pair in scoring position, Lexie Brady continued her hot weekend with a two-run base hit and scored two batters later on an Orman RBI single.
Things continued to go the Rebels' way in the second as the offense batted around. Taylor Malvin reached on an error, Jalia Lassiter singled, and Rummell walked to load the bases. With the Hawaii pitchers struggling to locate the zone, Ole Miss then walked in four runs and tacked on a fifth run on an RBI groundout.
In the third, the Rebels added another run. Ryan Starr walked and came around to score on a groundout from Rummell. The following inning, Ole Miss extended its lead as Orman smacked an RBI groundout and scored on a fielding error to make it 11-0.
Leading by double digits, Ma'Nia Womack stepped to the plate and blasted her first collegiate home run, sending the Ole Miss dugout into a frenzy. After two more Rebels reached base, Orman picked up her career-high fourth RBI of the game, and Jamie Mackay scored the 15th and final run of the night to cap the scoring.
The Rebels round out their weekend at the Paradise Classic on February 11 with another matchup against Hawaii at 4 p.m. CT.
