Men’s Tennis Downed by Tulane in New Orleans

2/23/2024 | Men's Tennis

NEW ORLEANS – Despite some close matchups, Ole Miss men's tennis (4-4, 0-0 SEC) was unable to take down Tulane (1-6, 0-0 AAC) as the Green Wave logged a 5-2 victory in the Rebels' first match of the weekend.

Nikola Slavic came to play after a two week break as he went a perfect 2-0 on the day in the No. 1 slot for both singles and doubles. The senior secured the lone doubles victory for the Rebels with partner Lukas Engelhardt, cruising to a 6-2 win.

In singles, Slavic dominated on the primary court as he garnered a straight set 7-5, 6-4 victory over Tulane's Billy Suarez. The win moves the Stockholm, Sweden, native into a tie for 13th most singles wins in program history. Slavic has tallied 81 career victories in his five years as a Rebel which matches Ole Miss assistant coach Kalle Norberg's count.

Carson Baker was the other Rebel to string together a singles win on the day after a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 victory over Green Wave Rafael De Alba. This marks the freshman's fifth collegiate singles win, all coming on courts five and six.
