Women’s Golf Tied for Fourth Through Day One at Puerto Rico Classic

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico – The Ole Miss women's golf team got its spring season underway at the Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday, compiling a score of 290 (+2) to sit tied for fourth heading into the second day at the Grand Reserve Golf Club.
 
The Rebels ended the opening day of play with a total of 16 birdies as a team, along with 53 pars on the day. Ole Miss will look to move up the leaderboard on Monday, with seven strokes currently separating the Rebels from first place.
 
Junior Caitlyn Macnab led the charge for the Rebels, tallying three birdies enroute to an opening round 71 (-1) that will see the Johannesburg, South Africa, native tied for 12th at the start of Monday's second round. This marks the tenth round this season that Macnab has shot below par.
 
Andrea Lignell had a strong start in Rio Grande, ending the day even with a score of 72 and is tied for 20th. The senior racked up three birdies and 12 pars and is currently leading the tournament in par-3 scoring (-2). 
 
Senior Justine Fournand will also be entering day two of competition tied for 20th carding a 72 (E) in the opening round. The Erstein, France, native's five birdies is tied for second most individually and marks her 50th on the year, the second highest on the team this season behind Macnab.
 
The Rebel lineup was rounded out by the duo of Natacha Host Husted and Sophie Linder, who shot scores of 75(+3) and 76 (+4), respectively. Husted will commence round two tied for 55th with Linder closely behind tied at 59th.
 
Competing as individuals for the Rebels are seniors Elle Johnson and Ellen Hume. In her third tournament of the 2023-24 season, Johnson tallied a score of 71 (-1) which places her tied for 12th with Macnab. In Hume's season-opening round, the Whitwell, England, native ends the day tied for 20th with an even score of 72.
 
Ole Miss will be back in action tomorrow for round two at the Grand Reserve Golf Club with shotgun start for all teams beginning at 6:30 a.m. CT.
