Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 14 Florida in Tight Matchup

3/31/2024 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 30 Ole Miss Womens Tennis team fell short in a close race against the Florida Gators 3-4 on Sunday.

The Rebels (10-7, 4-5 SEC) were off to a tough start, after a first set loss on court three for doubles. Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisova bounced back with a 6-3 victory, putting the pressure on the first position. Ultimatley Florida (11-7, 7-2 SEC) pulled away and gained the 1-0 lead.

Singles went off to a hot start for the Rebels when four courts won their first sets back to back. Briana Crowley dominated in the fourth slot, defeating #109 Lopez, 6-4, 6-4.

A comfortable sixth position, Rachel Krzyzak rallied a 7-6 victory in her first set, that gave Krzyzak momentum for the rest of her play. She then boosted a 6-0 second set that added another point for Ole Miss.

Emma Kette added yet another win to her campaign, now at an exilerating 7-1 conference record on the season. Kette rocked her first set 6-2, and despite a fall in the second, redeemed herself in a 6-4 notch.

Two Rebels dropped their sets, and the two teams were left to look at Leclerqc-Ficher on court four in its forced third set for the win. At the end, Florida gained the winning point to take the match.

Ole Miss will continue on the road as they take on Tennesse Friday, April 5, at 3 p.m. followed by Georgia in Athens on Sunday, April 7, at 1p.m.
