Men’s Basketball Drops Close One at Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – A 9-0 run from the Rebels late got them within striking distance of a comeback, but the clock ran out on the Ole Miss men's basketball team, as they fell 69-66 at Georgia on Tuesday night.
A dunk by Moussa Cisse was followed up with an alley-oop for the forward to open scoring for the Rebels (20-10, 7-10 SEC). While Ole Miss would trail a majority of the opening half, a second-chance bucket by Allen Flanigan cut their deficit to one, 24-23 with just over four and a half minutes before halftime. Georgia (16-14, 6-11 SEC) would enter the locker room with a three-point lead.
Moments into the second frame, a fastbreak layup by Brandon Murray gave Ole Miss their first lead of the game 37-35. While the Rebels kept the game close for the first 10 minutes of the last period, the home team stepped out in front by 11 with just under three minutes to go.
Down 65-54, a 9-0 run was capped off by a make from beyond the arc by Jaylen Murray, as the board read 65-63 with 49 seconds left. However, the buzzer came to quick for Ole Miss as they fell by three.
Jaemyn Brakefield and Jaylen Murray paced the Rebels offensively with 19 points each. Flanigan added 11.
Georgia had five players score in double figures, led by Noah Thomasson with 15.
Ole Miss plays their final game of the regular season on Saturday, March 9, hosting Texas A&M for a big-time game on CBS at 1 p.m. in the SJB Pavilion.
