Women’s Golf Sits Atop Team, Individual Leaderboard at Valspar Augusta Invite

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Ole Miss women's golf team got off to a hot start Friday morning at the Valspar Augusta Invitational and currently leads the 17-team field after a round and a half in Augusta, Georgia.
Moved up one day early due to the threat of rain on Saturday, the Rebels began play at Forest Hills Golf Club Friday morning firing a 12-under, 276, during the first round of action. Ole Miss carried the momentum into the second round and finished the day atop the team leaderboard at 14-under before play was halted due to darkness.
The Rebels also hold top individual honors in Augusta as Natacha Host Husted and Sophie Linder both sit at 7-under after 26 holes. The Ole Miss duo is tied for first alongside Georgia's LoraLie Cowart.
After a bogey on the first hole of the day for Host Husted, the junior from Copenhagen, Denmark, responded with eight birdies over her next 17 holes to card a career-best 6-under, 66 during the first round. She finished the first round with four straight birdies. Host Husted leads the field with 10 birdies through day one.
Linder, a freshman from Carthage, Tennessee, also turned in her best round as a Rebel with a first round 66 (-6). Sitting at 1-over after seven holes, Linder reeled off five straight birdies beginning with the par-5 No. 9. Linder would also go on to birdie No. 15 and No. 17 to cap off her career-best round.
Caitlyn Macnab continued with her consistent play and is tied for 20th after 27 holes (-1). Macnab carded a 1-under, 71 during Friday's first round which featured four birdies. The highlight of the day for Macnab came during the second round at the par-5 No. 9. After her approach from 199 yards out put her 20 feet from the pin, the Johannesburg, South Africa, native sank the eagle putt to get her back to even par for the second round.
Justine Fournand and Andrea Lignell rounded out the lineup for the Rebels in Georgia. Fournand currently is in 48th place (+2), while Lignell is 3-over through the first 28 holes of the tournament and sits in 59th.
Sophomore Nicole Gal, competing individually for the Rebels, currently sits in 38th place at 1-over through 28 holes. The Oakville, Ontario, native opened play Friday with a first round 73 (+1). Gal is even par just over halfway through round two and led the Rebels with 21 pars on the day.
Play has already been canceled for Saturday and the Rebels will pick back up Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. CT with the continuation of the second round. The third and final round will begin Sunday afternoon after round two.
