3/10/2024 | Women's Golf
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Ole Miss women's golf team came away with its second team title of the season, as the Rebels battled their way to earn the 2024 Valspar Augusta Invitational title on Sunday.
Capping off the weekend with a three-round score of 856 (-8), the second-lowest winning score in tournament history, the Rebels were an unstoppable force at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
Ole Miss tallied a tournament-high 55 birdies, which marked 10 more than any other team in Augusta. Additionally, the Rebels led the field in par-5 scoring, shooting a whopping 19-under across two days.
The Rebels kicked off the day Sunday by finishing the last eight to ten holes of round two immediately followed by round three action.
Much of the team's success can be credited to Natacha Host Husted, who earned her career-best finish tying for second place. After securing a career-low round score on Friday, the junior continued to blaze the trail for the Rebels shooting second and third round scores of 69 (-3) and 76 (+4), respectively, to end the event 5-under par.
Not far behind Host Husted was Caitlyn Macnab who secured her third top-5 finish of the season after placing fifth. Making her third eagle of the year, along with the second-highest birdies in the field at 14, the Johannesburg, South Africa, native shot all three rounds under par, accumulating a total score of 212 (-4).
Sophie Linder also recorded her career-best round on Friday en route to her career-high finish as she tied for sixth place. The freshman strung together her ninth round of even or below par to commence the day, before bringing home a three-round scorecard of 213 (-3) to assist the Rebels to the victory.
Andrea Lignell and Justine Fournand rounded out the championship rotation for the Rebels. Lignell shot her eighth round below par during the second round in order to finish with a score of 224 (+8) and a share of 52nd place. Fournand earned a three-round score of 226 (+10) to put her in a tie for 62nd.
Competing individually for the Rebels was Nicole Gal, who earned her highest career-finish, sharing 17th place. Gal tied her career-low 54 score at 218 (+2). The sophomore saved her best round for last, shooting an even par to wrap up the weekend for the Rebels.
The Rebels will wrap up the regular season at the Clemson Invitational where they will look to defend their team title. The tournament is set to take place March 22-24 in Sunset, South Carolina, at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
