4/12/2024 | Women's Golf
BELLEAIR, Fla. – The Ole Miss women's golf team wrapped up play in the team's opening round of action at the 2024 SEC Championship on Friday, as the Rebels shot a score of 286 (+6) to sit tied for seventh heading into the second round of play.
The Rebels ended the first round at the Pelican Golf Club with 14 birdies, which ties for third most in the field. Natacha Host Husted and Caitlyn Macnab led the charge for the Rebels, each tallying four to open the tournament.
At the conclusion of Sunday's final round of stroke play, only the top eight remaining teams are set to advance into the bracket to play in match play quarterfinals. The Rebels currently sit right above the projected cut line, as the team aims to qualify for match play in their sixth straight SEC Championship.
Husted continued her momentum from the final two regular season tournaments by tallying the Rebel's lone round below par at 68 (-2). Going perfect across her final 12 holes, the junior ranks second in par-4 scoring shooting 2-under on the day. Husted will head into the second day of stroke play sitting tied for sixth as she looks for her fourth top 10 finish of the year.
Macnab, who is fresh off an ANWA appearance earlier this month, was not far behind Husted at the conclusion of day one as the senior finished tied for 19th with a score of 70 (E). This marks the Johannesburg, South Africa, native's 21st round even or below par as she now holds the most in a season in program history.
Sophie Linder's opening round of play would conclude with the freshman sitting tied for 35th at 3-over par. In par-5 scoring, Linder sits tied for fourth in the field as she has shot 1-under after the first day.
Rounding out the Rebel lineup in Belleair was the senior duo of Justine Fournand and Andrea Lignell. Fournand ended her first day with a score of 75 (+5) to sit tied for 47th, while Lignell heads into day two in 58th place after shooting 76 (+6).
The Rebels' second round in Florida is set to tee off at 7:50 a.m. CT tomorrow morning at the hole one.
