ESPN Tabs Ole Miss as No. 5 College Football Playoff Contender

6/4/2024 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. – After finishing last season at a program-best 11-2 and as Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl champions, the expectations are through the roof for Lane Kiffin and the 2024 Ole Miss football team.

ESPN ranked Ole Miss as the No. 5 College Football Playoff contender in the nation, the third SEC team on the list behind No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Texas.

"As the 2024 season approaches, the "rat poison" gets more potent by the week for Lane Kiffin and his Rebels. Expectations are soaring, as well they should be when you look at the talent on Ole Miss' roster. The schedule is one of the more manageable ones in the SEC, and if the Rebels can get to the conference championship game, look out," wrote the ESPN staff.

Ole Miss brings back a stellar cast of returners, including a Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Jaxson Dart. They're joined by one of the top transfer portal classes in college football, as well as a top-20 class of incoming freshmen.
