What to Expect from Ole Miss Receiver Juice Wells
7/24/2024 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. – Jaxson Dart's biggest issue in 2024 might be that he has only one ball to distribute as he targets arguably the best receiving corps in college football. Today, let's take a look at one of his newest weapons, South Carolina transfer Antwane Wells Jr.
"Juice," as he is known, has taken a unique path to Oxford. Lightly recruited, a 0-star prospect out of high school, Wells went to prep school in 2019 at Fork Union Military Academy before becoming an FCS All-American at James Madison after hauling in 1,250 yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2021.
From there, the SEC came calling and Wells headed to South Carolina in 2022, where he continued to dominate. He racked up 928 yards and six touchdowns to earn First Team All-SEC honors. He was poised for a spectacular senior year, but the Preseason All-American had his season cut short after reinjuring a broken foot.
With fall camp right around the corner, Juice took to Instagram, posting a clip of him training inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to show that he's feeling good as the season draws near.
Tyler Komis of 247Sports broke down what a healthy Wells brings to the Rebel roster alongside other elite threats like Tre Harris, Jordan Watkins and Caden Prieskorn.
"Strengths Wells adds to Kiffin's fifth-year offense are his elite route running, lightning in bottle-like yards after catch and elusiveness," wrote Komis. "He possesses game breaking speed and can take the lid of the defense if he has to, but thrives best on intermediate routes to turn upfield."
