Women’s Basketball Adds Youth to Roster in Signing of Fatumata Djaló
7/29/2024 | Women's Basketball
OXFORD, Miss. – As the start of the school year draws closer, Ole Miss women's basketball strengthens its roster with an infusion of youth for the 2024-25 season with head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin signing Fatumata Djaló from Aviero, Portugal.
"We are truly excited about Fatu joining our family! Fatu is a combo guard that has had a lot of experience with international play," said McPhee-McCuin. "She is a great defender and will be a positive addition to our roster!"
Djaló has spent plenty of time on the European circuit with Portugal women's basketball, breaking out last summer at the 2023 U18 women's European Championships in Hungary. Over seven games, the forward averaged 11.4 points per game with a best of 20 points against Finland.
This past month at the U20 Women's Eurobasket Championships in Lithuania, Djaló carried Portugal averaging a team best 10.0 points per game and scored a personal tournament best 17 points against Latvia in the Round of 16.
Djaló becomes the third freshman to join the Rebels in its 2024 class, joining Heloisa Carerra of Brazil and Sira Thienou of Mali. As one of six newcomers, eight Rebels return for the seventh year under McPhee-McCuin as Ole Miss looks to make its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Renewals and new season tickets for the 2024-25 Ole Miss basketball season are on sale now. To purchase or learn more about becoming a season ticket holder for women's basketball, click here or contact the Ole Miss Athletics ticket office.
