Fischer Finishes Tied for Eighth in Stroke Play, Set for Match Play at U.S. Amateur

CHASKA, Minn. – Tom Fischer grinded out a one-over score of 73 on Tuesday in the second round of the 2024 U.S. Amateur. He secures his spot in the top 64, qualifying for match play beginning Wednesday.
Fischer got off to a hot start birding the par-4 first. He weathered the storm the rest of his round posting 15 pars on his scorecard for a round of 73 (+1). He finished (-5) and tied for eighth through 36-holes of stroke play.

Round of 64, match play will begin Wednesday with the field being cut in half at the conclusion of each round. Thursday will include both the round of 32 and round of 16 matches. Quarterfinals will ensue Friday, semifinals on Saturday before a champion is crowned on Sunday after a 36-hole championship match.
Hazeltine National Golf Club will be the site for the remainder of the tournament. The historic venue opened in 1962 and is set to play 7,599 yards/Par 72. The course has been the sight of eight major golf championships as well as the 1994 U.S. Mid-Amateur, and the 2016 Ryder Cup.
Wednesday’s match play has been moved up and will begin at 8 a.m. with inclement weather projected in tomorrow afternoon’s forecast. Match play coverage can be streamed on Golf Channel and Peacock.
