Women’s Basketball Inks Sophia “The Jet” Gbemuotor for 2024-25

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's basketball keeps working to build for the 2024-25 campaign, as head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin announced the signing of Sophia Jite Gbemuotor from Delta State, Nigeria on Tuesday.
"Sophia has elevated our roster instantly. She is a dynamic forward that can score at all 3 levels," said McPhee-McCuin. "We are excited about her joining the team this fall and look forward to seeing her adapt to Ole Miss and the SEC!"
Nicknamed Jet, Gbemuotor grew up in Slovenia and spent time on the national circuit for numerous years. A rebounding force at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's European Championship in Bulgaria. En route to Slovenia going on to take the title, Gbemuotor appeared in three games with an average of 5.7 rebounds per contest.
Spending time in the Women's Adriatic League also known as the WABA playing for ZKK Cinkarna Celje, Gbemuotor was named as the Youth Player of the Year in 2022 and was named one of the league's best five players in 2024. While playing for Cinkarna Celjie, Gbemuotor averaged 9.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.
Gbemuotor is the fourth freshman to join Ole Miss for the 2024-25 season, coming in alongside Heloisa Carerra, Fatu Djaló and Sira Thienou. As eight newcomers return, seven new Rebels join Ole Miss in its quest to make its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
