Men’s Golf Ranked 13th in Preseason Poll
8/30/2024 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. – Just seven days out from the start of the 2024-25 season, the Ole Miss men's golf program earned recognition from The Golf Coaches Association of America as the preseason No. 13 team in the nation.
The SEC has 11 teams inside the preseason Top-25 to lead all conferences.
Entering his 11th season at the helm of the men's golf program, Chris Malloy leads what looks to be a promising mix of veteran and young talent into the 2024-25 campaign. Over the past 10 seasons, Malloy has led Ole Miss to nine team tournament titles and 21 wins by individuals.
The Rebels enter 2024 coming off one of the best seasons in program history. The team secured the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional of the NCAA tournament, marking the highest seed given in program history.
The team finished the 2023 regular season with seven top-five finishes, 16 individual top-10 finishes, and a team victory at the Seminole Intercollegiate down in Tallahassee. The Rebels carded 20 rounds under par on the season, including a 262-round score on the final day of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The 262 score of (-18) set the new lowest single-round score in program history. It was previously set by the 2022-23 team which shot 268 (-10) at the 2022 SEC Fall Preview.
The program returns six members from the 2023-24 roster including PING All-American and First Team All-SEC selection Michael La Sasso. Veterans Kye Meeks and Cameron Tankersley aim to build on a promising 2023-24 resume. Tom Fischer enters his junior season after a strong summer in the amateur circuit. Fischer was the 18-hole leader after round one at the 2024 U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine, making it to the round of 32 match play.
Malloy bolstered the roster with one addition through the portal with the addition of Cohen Trolio. The junior from LSU returns to his home state and is reunited with his younger brother Collins who enters his sophomore year with the team. Trolio notched 23 events for the Tigers with a 72.46 stroke average.
Ole Miss will open its season in Knoxville, Tennessee on Friday, September 6, at the second annual Visit Knoxville Collegiate.
