9/10/2024 | Football
OXFORD, Miss. – Another uncommon opponent awaits Ole Miss football in Week 3 as the Rebels get set for just their third meeting ever with Wake Forest on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Ole Miss played both Furman and Middle Tennessee for just the second time in program history, winning both meetings by a combined score of 128-3 for a tremendous start to the 2024 season. Scroll on for a closer looking at the all-time series between the Rebels and the Demon Deacons.
Series Snapshot
Ole Miss and Wake Forest have met just twice, a home-and-home in 2006 and 2008. Wake Forest won the first meeting, a 27-3 victory in Oxford. The Rebel offense ran for just 26 yards and totaled just 237 in the defeat. Ole Miss looked poised for payback two years later in Winston-Salem. Jevan Snead hit Cordera Eason to give Ole Miss a 28-27 lead with 1:01 to go, but Sam Swank connected on a 41-yard field goal as No. 20 Wake Forest escaped the upset in a 30-28 final.
Common Foes: Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech
The Demon Deacons and Rebels had two common opponents last year. Wake took down Vanderbilt, 36-20, in a Week 2 home victory last season, the largest offensive output of the year for the Deacs. Ole Miss topped Vandy 33-7 in Oxford. The Rebels also defeated their lone ACC opponent, Georgia Tech, in a 48-23 final in Week 3 a year ago. The Yellow Jackets rebounded to beat Wake Forest 30-16 the following week.
Wake Forest vs. the SEC
Head coach Dave Clawson is 4-0 against SEC opponents while at Wake Forest, including multiple wins over Vanderbilt and bowl wins over Texas A&M (Belk, 2017) and Missouri (Gasparilla, 2022). Wake Forest currently has the second-longest active win streak (4) against SEC teams, trailing just Stanford who has a six-game win streak.
Ole Miss vs. the ACC
Ole Miss has a 16-10-1 record all-time against current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Rebels are a perfect 3-0 against ACC opponents under Lane Kiffin with two wins over Georgia Tech and one over Louisville.
