Soccer Defeats Southern Miss in Midweek Matchup

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss was lifted by a goal from senior Aubrey Mister to propel the Rebels to a 1-0 victory in Thursday’s match against Southern Miss. The Rebels and Golden Eagles squared off at 11 a.m. due to tropical storm Francine.
It took both teams time to find their footing, but the Rebels were able to break into the scoring column in the 19th minute. Katie Ramsden received a ball along the midfield line and made a nice pass to Mister who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Ramsden picked up her second career assist and her first since the opening game of the season against Southern.
Southern Miss generated seven shots in the first half, but sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Prigge stood tall making three saves in the first 45 minutes of action. It marked Prigge’s third start of the season as she made four saves on the afternoon.
The Ole Miss back line along with Prigge remained stout in the second half only allowing two second half shots. It marked the team’s fourth shutout victory of the season with all four wins coming on home soil.
Freshman Grace Smith and sophomore Gili Johnson each made their first start of the season. Smith logged a career-high 59 minutes on the pitch with Johnson playing 37.
Ole Miss (5-3-0) returns to action Sunday at home against Lipscomb. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and can be streamed on SEC Network+.
