Soccer Drops SEC Opener to Tennessee in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss Soccer opened up its 2025 SEC slate Thursday night on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers, losing a close 2-1 contest.
Kelly Brady scored the team’s lone goal and Shu Ohba made six saves, including one on a penalty kick, but the Rebels could not find a second half equalizer to earn a result in Knoxville.
The Rebels took seven shots on the night, placing four on goal, and outshooting the Volunteers in the second half, 5-3.
Tennessee scored the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute on a deflection as Ohba made the save on the first shot by the Vols.
It took just over three minutes for the Rebels to respond however, as Lauren Montgomery and Brady teamed up for the equalizer. Montgomery beat a defender and sent a cross all the way from the right side of the box to the left where it found the feet of Brady. Brady took a touch and sent her third goal of the season into the right side of the net.
Tennessee was awarded a penalty kick in the 34th minute but could not convert as Ohba made a perfect read and completed the save.
The teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Volunteers took their second lead of the match in the 60th minute but were held to just two more shots the rest of the way. The Rebels could not capitalize and fell to 0-1 in conference play.
Ole Miss will be in Baton Rouge Sunday night to take on LSU for game two of its SEC schedule.
