Cammy Niesen Tabbed as SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss volleyball junior Cammy Niesen has been selected as the Southeastern Conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as the conference announced on Monday.
Niesen shares the award with Mississippi State's McKenna Yates. It is the second such honor in the career of Niesen, who wins her first weekly honor since 2022.
It was a big week for Niesen, who simultaneously delivered standout performances, while making history. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native became the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 digs in her career and continued to climb both the rally scoring era and combined digs charts at Ole Miss, moving into seventh and 12th, respectively. Niesen tallied 58 digs in three matches over the weekend, while adding 13 assists.
The junior was particularly impactful in the five-set win over Houston, with 19 digs and six assists, as well as notching 21 digs in the win over Texas A&M Commerce. Niesen has now tallied three consecutive matches of 15 or more digs for the first time since Oct. 2023.
Niesen and the Rebels open SEC play this weekend, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to face Arkansas on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT. The match will be televised on the SEC Network.
