Soccer Falls in SEC Home Opener Against Texas
9/26/2024 | Soccer
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss soccer team dropped its SEC home opener to new league opponent Texas by a score of 0-1 Thursday night. Ashlyn Miller scored the lone goal on the night for the Longhorns in the 65th minute.
Texas maintained constant pressure in the offensive zone for the majority of the match. The Longhorns outshot the Rebels (22-6) and (9-1) in shots on goal. Ole Miss was able to generate three corner opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Shu Ohba was outstanding again for the Rebels making eight saves.
The match remained all square until midway through the second half when Texas's Lexi Missimo found the ball along the midfield line and delivered a pass to a streaking Holly Ward. Ward made a nice touch on the ball just outside the box and found Miller to put the Longhorns up 1-0.
Sophomore Grace Freeman delivered a shot on goal as time winded down but was denied by Texas keeper Mia Justus for her lone save of the night.
Ole Miss (5-7-0, 0-3-0 SEC) travels to The Plains this Sunday for a match at No. 8 Auburn. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and can be streamed on SEC Network+.
