Men’s Golf Earns Golf Channel Preseason Nods, La Sasso Named to Fall Haskins Award Watch List

OXFORD, Miss. – As the start of the 2024-25 is nearly upon us, the Ole Miss men's golf program received recognition from Golf Channel as the preseason No. 10 team in the nation.
The Rebels enter 2024 coming off one of the best seasons in program history, as he team secured the No. 2 seed in the Stanford Regional of the NCAA tournament, marking the highest seed given in program history.
The team finished the 2023-24 regular season with seven top-five finishes, 16 individual top-10 finishes, and a team victory at the Seminole Intercollegiate down in Tallahassee. The Rebels carded 20 rounds under par on the season, including a 262-round score on the final day of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. The 262 score of (-18) set the new lowest single-round score in program history. It was previously set by the 2022-23 team which shot 268 (-10) at the 2022 SEC Fall Preview.
PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
Junior Michael La Sasso was named a preseason second team All-American by Golf Channel Wednesday. The Raleigh, N.C., native looks to build on his All-American campaign a season ago.
La Sasso anchored the Rebels throughout the 2023-24 season, competing in all 10 tournaments for Ole Miss and leading the team in six. He helped guide the Rebels to a No. 2 seed for the 2024 Stanford Regional, the highest seed given in program history. La Sasso finished inside the top-20 in all regular events of the year, including four top-three finishes.
In his second year of collegiate play, he paced the team with a stroke average of 69.76 which ranks second in school history behind fellow All-American and 2017 National Champion, Braden Thornberry.
HASKINS AWARD FALL WATCH LIST
In addition to preseason All-American honors, La Sasso was also named to the 2024-25 Fall Haskins Award Watch List.
Beginning in 1971, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel is annually given to the top male U.S. collegiate golfer as voted on by only college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media. Past winners of the Haskins Award presented by Stifel have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments around the world.
Named in honor of Fred Haskins, the award is managed by the Haskins Foundation to acknowledge the top male golfer at the end of the season and to match the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, which acknowledges the top female Division I collegiate golfer.
Ole Miss will open its season in Knoxville, Tennessee on Friday, September 6, at the second Visit Knoxville Collegiate.
