Men’s Tennis Loan Lestir Earns Outstanding Player Award at the SEC-ACC Challenge

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss men's tennis sophomore Loan Lestir won the Outstanding Player Award at the SEC-ACC Challenge in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Sunday.
Lestir went 3-0 in singles matches over the weekend and only dropped one set, despite the Rebels dropping their matchup with Columbia on the final day of the tournament.
The day began with doubles play, Rebels Noah Schlagenhauf and Lestir faced off against Thanapat Boosarawongse and Aditya Govila of Columbia. The Rebel duo ultimately fell short, 6-7 (6-8).
Benjamin Martin and Gordon Whitwell were the other pairing for the Rebels; however, they also came up short against Andrew Ena and Abhishek Thorat of Columbia, 3-6.
Both teams then moved on to singles play, with Columbia holding the advantage after defeating Ole Miss in the doubles matches.
Schlagenhauf defeated Boosarawongse, because Boosarawongse had to retire due to suffering an injury mid-match; however, when play was stopped, Schlagenhauf led, 7-6 (7-1).
Lestir then took down Thorat, 5-7, 7-5, 10-4, and Martin followed it up, for he defeated Govila, 6-2, 6-4. Whitwell dropped his match to Ena, 5-7, 0-6.
With the Rebels and Columbia tied 3-3, after Ole Miss took three singles victories, the winner was decided by a ten-point doubles tiebreaker. Schlagenhauf and Lestir would represent the Rebels for the tiebreaker, but the duo fell short against Ena and Thorat, 8-10.
The Rebels will be back in action later this week in Princeton, New Jersey, on Oct. 31, for the Farnsworth Invitational.
