Cammy Niesen Tabbed as SEC Defensive Player of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss volleyball senior Cammy Niesen added another honor to her growing list of achievements on Monday, as Niesen was selected as the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week.
Niesen earns the fourth SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career and the first this season. Niesen joins Gabi Placide, who was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Sep. 22, as SEC weekly award winners from the Rebel program this season.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native led a dominant defensive performance by the Rebels in a 3-0 win at Georgia, helping lead her team to a sweep of the Bulldogs in Athens, Ga., for the first time since 2008. Niesen tallied 19 digs and six assists in the three-set win, recording the second largest dig output of her career in a three-set SEC match.
Niesen's 19 digs helped limit the Bulldogs to just .198 hitting on the day and limited Georgia to its second lowest kill output of the season at just 26.
With 19 digs on the day, Niesen moved to within 18 digs of sole possession of ninth place in SEC history and stands at 1,784 in her career. Niesen continues to bolster an All-SEC campaign, ranking second in the SEC in digs per set at 4.23.
Niesen and the Rebels are set to return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 12 as they travel to South Carolina for a 6 p.m. CT matchup. The match will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
