Women’s Tennis’ Emily Welker Advances to the NCAA Championships Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – Ole Miss Women's Tennis' Emily Welker advanced in the NCAA Singles Championships in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday morning.
After her victories on the first two days of the tournament, No. 67 Welker matched up against No. 26 Lily Jones of Michigan in the Round of 16. However, Jones withdrew from the tournament on Thursday morning, giving Welker an automatic advance because of the forfeit.
Welker will continue to play in the singles bracket on Friday morning in the Quarterfinals, where she will face off against No. 106 Savannah Dada-Mascoll of Appalachian State.
Welker is the first Rebel since Arianne Hartono in 2018 to advance past the Round of 32. Hartono went on to win the NCAA Singles Championship.
Later in the day, Welker and Andrea Nova paired up for the Round of 16 in the doubles bracket, where they faced off against the No. 7 pairing of Ange Oby Kajuru and Susanna Maltby of North Carolina in the round of 16.
The match came down to a third set decided by ten points. The Rebels would lose, 5-7, 6-4, (5-10), ending the Rebels' duo's run at the NCAA Doubles Championships.
