OXFORD, Miss. – No.6 Ole Miss, coming off a late-season bye, turns its attention to the annual edition of the Egg Bowl, presented by Facebook, against their rivals Mississippi State.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin spoke with the media earlier this week to preview the 11 a.m. kickoff in Starkville. TJ Dottery and Trinidad Chambliss spoke with the media as well in this week's practice report, presented by Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center.
Rivalry Week
Ole Miss enters Egg Bowl week with momentum and focus as they prepare to travel to Starkville for the annual rivalry matchup against Mississippi State. Following a strong stretch to close out the regular season, head coach Lane Kiffin emphasized that the team's approach remains consistent: stay locked in, block out distractions, and treat the rivalry with the respect it demands.
Kiffin noted that despite the emotions surrounding the Egg Bowl each year, the Rebels' preparation does not change.
"It's about doing things right all week," Kiffin said. "This game means a lot to our fans and our program, but it still comes down to execution, discipline, and playing our style of football."
Kiffin praised the team's leadership throughout the season, pointing to how veteran players have set the tone by reinforcing the program's 1–0 weekly mindset. He said the Rebels understand the atmosphere they're walking into on Friday morning and embrace the challenge.
Leadership
QB Trinidad Chambliss spoke on Tuesday about the responsibility the defense feels heading into one of the SEC's most emotional games. He emphasized the significance of staying composed regardless of the environment.
"We know what this game means," Chambliss said. "But at the end of the day, it's still about doing our job every snap. We stay together, we play fast, and we trust the game plan."
Chambliss highlighted how the offense has grown late in the season, crediting communication and discipline as the keys to their improvement. He noted that rivalry games often come down to physicality at the line of scrimmage, and the Rebels are prepared to meet that challenge.
LB TJ Dottery echoed that mindset, stressing the importance of energy and accountability.
"We feed off each other," Dottery said. "When we bring the juice and stay locked in, we can be as good as anyone. That's what this week is about, bringing our best every single play."
With both leaders stressing focus and effort, the Rebels aim to set the tone early and maintain the same physicality and explosiveness that has defined their success down the stretch.
All Eyes on Starkville
Ole Miss will close its regular season with a chance to secure another double-digit win and strengthen its postseason resume. The Rebels understand that the Egg Bowl carries enormous emotional weight, but inside the locker room, the message remains simple: stay together and stay the course.
"We just need to continue to keep the vibes right, keep the energy high, and trust each other," Chambliss said. "We all know what's in front of us, and we all want the same thing, to finish strong."
Kiffin noted that the team's ability to stay loose but focused has been one of its strengths all season. The Rebels aim to carry that balanced mentality into Starkville as they prepare for one of the most intense environments in college football.
With leadership, health, and confidence aligning at the right time, Ole Miss now turns its full attention to Friday's rivalry showdown, determined to close the season with a defining Egg Bowl victory.
