Women’s Golf Kicks Off Spring Season at Puerto Rico Classic

OXFORD, Miss. – Following a three-month break from competing, No. 19 Ole Miss women's golf will return to action at the Puerto Rico Classic to open the Rebels' spring schedule, set to run Feb. 2-4 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The three-day, 54-hole affair, features 18 teams in the field, with seven of those squads sitting in the top 25 of Clippd's final fall rankings. This will mark Ole Miss' second consecutive year playing at the esteemed tournament, as the young Rebel team will search for their third trophy of the season.

Caitlyn Macnab (Sr.) – Johannesburg, South Africa
· Leads the team in scoring average with a 70.08
· Captured her fourth career medalist finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational, securing the 18-hole (63) and 54-hole (204) course and tournament records
· Marked the second lowest round score in program history with a 63 (-9) at Mary Fossum Invitational
· Finished in the top 20 in all four fall tournaments, including two top 5 placings

· Holds the second-lowest scoring average for the Rebels at 72.08

· Shot a 65 on day two at the Illini Invitational to notch the lowest round score by a freshman in program history
· Earned her first top-10 finish of her young career at Illini Invitational, tying for seventh
· Notched the lowest third-round score for the Rebels at the Cougar Classic, shooting 4-under
Ind: Larissa Carrillo (Fr.) – Saltillo, Mexico
· Shooting a season stroke average of 74.22
· Was one of two Rebels to make an eagle in the fall season

THE COURSE
The Grand Reserve Golf Club has hosted the Puerto Rico Open – the only PGA Tour event ever held on the island – annually since 2008. Stretching along the Grand Reserve beachfront peninsula, with El Yunque rain forest as a backdrop, fans experience an epic 18 holes of championship golf. The Grand Reserve is one of only two championship courses in the Caribbean. The course is a par 72 and spans across 6,305 yards.
FALL SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
Ole Miss seems to set new program records each year, and already 2024-25 is no different. The Rebels carded their second lowest 54-hole score in program history at the Illini Women's Invitational (834), a stunning 30-under par. They improved their team score by one stroke each round as Macnab (-9), Svarvar (-8) and Filippa Sundquist (-7) each finished in the top 10. All six Rebels were under par for the tournament as Sophie Linder was 3-under and Nicole Gal was 1-under to round out the scoring five, while Larissa Carrillo shot 5-under as an independent.
The Rebels also turned in a record-breaking performance in their win at Forest Akers West Golf Course. They set the Mary Fossum Invitational record at 847 (-17) to race past host and runner-up Michigan State by 15 strokes. Ole Miss had three top-five finishers: individual medalist Macnab who carded 63 in Round 1 to finish 12-under on the weekend, Gal in fourth place at 5-under and Linder tied for fifth at 1-under.
LAST TIME OUT
Ole Miss concluded its 2024 fall season at the Landfall Tradition, which ran Oct. 25-27, as the Rebels secured another top-5 finish after earning fourth place at the Country Club of Landfall. Ole Miss ended their weekend with a scorecard of 866 (+2) and finished its time in North Carolina ranked second in the field in par-3 scoring (+7) and in birdies (50).
Securing her second top-15 individual finish this season, Nicole Gal led the way for the Rebels after shooting a final 18-hole score of 74 (+2) to go even on the weekend and earn a share of 13th place. Leading the field with 16 birdies, Caitlyn Macnab was not far behind after shooting 5-over on the final day to bring her overall score to 217 (+1). Tying for 17th place, the senior finished in the top-20 individually in all four tournaments this fall.
ANWA BOUND
Caitlyn Macnab has been invited to the 2025 Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA), set to run April 2-5 in Augusta, Ga. Ole Miss assistant coach, Zack Siefert, will accompany Macnab to Augusta as her caddie.
This will mark the fourth time in Macnab's amateur career that she has been invited to the prestigious event. At the 2024 ANWA, Macnab saw a strong first day as she made three birdies and 12 pars to propel herself to a score of 71 (-1). The Johannesburg, South Africa, native fell short in advancing to the final round though, finishing just one stroke shy of the cut line with a score of 148 (+4) on the week. Two years ago, Macnab had an extraordinary run as she finished tied for ninth in Augusta after stringing together a three-round score of 217 (+1). This marked an improvement from her performance at the 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur, where she placed 11th.
MEET MATILDA BJÖRKMAN
Head coach Kory Henkes is excited for the future of Ole Miss women's golf, as Matilda Björkman has signed her financial aid agreement to join the Rebels for the 2025-26 campaign. The Töreboda, Västergötland, Sweden, native becomes the sixth Swedish recruit to sign with Ole Miss under Henkes, joining some successful Rebels in Kajsalotta Svarvar, Filippa Sundquist, Andrea Lignell, Ellen Hutchinson-Kay and Pi-Lillebi Hermansson.
Björkman has accumulated a plethora of honors, most notably winning the 2023 Swedish Junior Tour Elite #1. Additionally, the incoming freshman has earned 14 top-10 finishes in 29 events across her amateur career, including runner-up finishes at the Kumla Junior Open and the Ahlsell Final at Elisefarm. Competing for her home country Sweden, Björkman became a silver medalist with her team at the 2022 World Junior Girls Championship and placed in the top-10 individually at the following year's event. She has also competed for the Swedish National Girls team at the European Championship and participated in the 2023 International Ladies Hexagonal Match.
