Miali Guachino Breaks Softball’s Single Game Strikeout Record

2/14/2025 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. – Despite making just her third collegiate start and fifth collegiate appearance, Ole Miss softball’s Miali Guachino has already etched her name in the record books.

The Pala, Calif., native made history on Thursday, as she recorded 19 strikeouts at Southern Miss to set the program’s single game strikeout record.

The freshman threw an incredible 181 pitches over 9.2 innings of work and shattered the old record of 15, which was done on four occasions, but most recently done by Savannah Diederich in 2021 against Indiana State.

The 19 strikeouts were the most by any pitcher in the nation so far this season and vaulted her into the SEC strikeouts lead. Her efforts came just shy of the SEC record of 22 and were one of the most sensational performances by a freshman in the nation this season.

Guachino and the Rebels will continue action this weekend from Friday through Sunday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational.
