2/14/2025 | Track and Field
BOSTON – Ole Miss track & field set a school record at the David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston to start off a busy three-way split weekend on Friday night.
All-American senior Toby Gillen finished 14th and posted an overall career-best and Ole Miss record of 13.28.34 in Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invite 5K – which included a world record by Olympian Grant Fisher (12:44.09). Gillen broke his previous school record of 13:28.81 from a year prior in the same race. In addition to sitting atop the Ole Miss record book, Gillen also now ranks No. 22 in the nation this season.
Running alongside Gillen were two Rebel alumni in All-Americans Anthony Camerieri and Sean Tobin. Camerieri finished in 10th place, while Tobin took 29th.
Senior transfer Kidus Misgina also improved his standings in the record book, finishing 23rd in the Valentine Invite 3K with a career-best 7:51.86, besting his time of 7:51.98 from just two weeks ago at the Razorback Invitational to improve upon his spot at No. 3 in Ole Miss history. Junior Aiden Britt followed behind, finishing 55th at 7:58.30.
In the men's mile, junior Gabe Scales finished 41st, narrowly missing his career-best at 4:00.53. Freshman Ky Hehir followed with a career-best at 4:04.82.
Meanwhile, at Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge in Nashville, the Rebels tallied a handful of impressive performances in the men's weight throw invite. Junior and Bowerman watch list member Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan remains undefeated against collegiate opponents this season, claiming third at 23.34m/76-2 behind former NCAA champion and world leader Isaiah Rodgers (25.02m/82-1) and Olympian Daniel Haugh (24.33m/79-10).
Junior Bryson Smith followed in fourth at 21.20m/69-06.75. Fellow junior Mason Hickel finished in fifth with a career-best 21.19m/69-06.25, moving to No. 3 in Ole Miss history. Senior Costen Campion took sixth place at 20.46m/67-01.50.
In the women's weight throw, sophomore Akaoma Odeluga claimed fourth at 19.98m/65-06.75, while fellow sophomore Skylar Soli finished seventh at 19.37m/63-06.75. At the top, two Rebel alumni and former NCAA champions Jalani Davis (25.12m/82-5) and Janeah Stewart (24.42m/80-01.50) led the competition while setting the No. 2 and No. 4 marks worldwide this season. For Davis, that throw ranks as a career-best that sits No. 9 in the history of the United States and No. 10 in world history.
In the men's mile at Vanderbilt, sophomore Landen McNair led the Rebels at a season-best 4:06.66 to claim the No. 15 spot. Fellow sophomore Zack Gilbertson also recorded a season-best, coming in at 4:09.63 to finish 35th overall.
At Arkansas' Tyson Invitational, junior Joseph Michel clocked in at 6.89 to take fifth place overall in the open men's 60-meter dash to lead the way for the Rebels.
