Gal, Macnab Lead the Way During Round 1 at Moon Golf Invitational

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Ole Miss women's golf team sits in a tie for third and two Rebels are atop the individual leaderboard after the first round of the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Florida.
Battling 20 mph winds for most of the day, Ole Miss opened the tournament with a team score of 4-over, 292, at the Suntree Country Club.
Nicole Gal and Caitlyn Macnab both fired a 2-under, 70 and share the individual lead after the first 18 holes of play. The Rebel duo are just two of 10 golfers in the field to shoot under par during a windy first round.

Gal, a junior from Oakville, Ontario, found success at Suntree on the par-4 holes. All three of Gal's birdies were on a par-4 and she currently leads the field in par-4 scoring (3.80). She also tallied 14 pars on the day.
After a bogey at No. 5, Macnab caught fire, making a birdie on four of her next five holes. It was the 11th round under par this season for the senior from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Freshmen Filippa Sundquist and Kajsalotta Svarvar were the other counting scores for the Rebels, as the duo both shot a 76 (+4) and are tied for 47th overall.
Sundquist found herself 4-over through the first nine holes, but was able to settle down and shoot even par the rest of the way. Svarvar's round also started with a double-bogey at No. 1, but the freshman from Halmstad, Sweden, rebounded with birdies on No. 4 and 8.
Sophie Linder rounded out the rotation for the Rebels, shooting a 10-over, 82 during the first round of action.
Ole Miss will get the second round of play started on Monday with Linder teeing off for the Rebels at 7:50 a.m. CT on No. 1.
